A few weeks ago, I was experimenting with DanBot, giving it the full text of my postings here to work with, and seeing if I could get it to write its own posts that sounded somewhat coherent. I didn't work on it very long, and the results were unimpressive (I can post an example or two if desired).
But someone named boog did a much better job than I did. I Am Learn is a weblog written by a perl script, and surprisingly, it's actually surprisingly lucid and coherent sometimes. With its frequent lack of subject-verb agreement, etc., it sounds sort of like a foreigner or a teenager in the midst of the aLtErNaTiNg cApS pHaZe, OMG!!!11oneone, but it's still impressive and amusing to read what it comes up with. Quoth the boog,
I wrote a ridiculous Perl program to generate text. Thing is, it developed some bugs, and has managed to create phrases and combinations of words (which actually make sense) that I didn’t even program in. I hooked it up to the Blogger API, and now it updates its own weblog with no editing on my part (I just give it a bunch of topics to talk about). Check it out, I’ve called it ‘Learn’. I can’t stop laughing when I read it.. it’s so realistic for a weblog. It sounds like a typical teenage girl.
