My steadily dwindling contact lens supply has had me meaning to make an eye doctor appointment for a month or two. A week or so ago I found myself on my last pair of contacts, and figured I should really make it out there soon. Finally this morning I found that one of my remaining two contacts was no longer wearable. OK, time to bite the bullet.
Unfortunately, they don't have the contacts I use in stock, so they'll have to be ordered. What's more, even once they arrive I can't wear them for a week or so, because she said my eyes need some time off from contacts (apparently related to the fact that I haven't owned a pair of glasses in oh, four years or so). In fact, she said she wouldn't even give me the contacts until it's safe for me to wear them (like I'm going to immediately sneak off in a corner and maliciously put them in). I could understand such a precaution with someone fresh out of puberty like Meg, but I'd think someone of my advanced age should be treated with more respect.
Anyway, my solution was to order a pair of glasses as well. They still won't be here till tomorrow afternoon but I can deal with one day of cautious and terrified driving. My only concern now is that I had to pick them out in a hurry because by then I was late for work. So I picked the ones I liked best of the ones in the cheapest price range, but they are relatively small and squared-off, bearing a suspicious resemblance to emo glasses that I would expect to find on Kirstin or Kelsey. Needless to say, while they're both quite cute, I don't think I can successfully pull off their "look". So here's hoping I didn't accidentally get girls' glasses or something, especially since I will have to wear them for the next week, including the visit to Boston. If only Andy had been here to tell me for sure one way or the other. He has bailed me out of this kind of mistake multiple times in the past :)
