So, can someone explain Donnie Darko to me? I fear I may lack the cognitive capacity to reason it out for myself. I managed to maintain a tenuous grasp through most of the movie, but those last 20 minutes or so... Completely lost me.

I think the movie is a play on current American society with a clever point being made on why we should all wear creepy rabbit costumes and go around bugging people and trying to not get shot in the head.

OK so the jet engine came from his mom's plane 28 days in the future that flew through a wormhole. I get that. I'm guessing the Frank he kept seeing was the guy he later killed? And since he killed him, he wasn't able to tell Donnie to leave the house and so Donnie then died... Or something? I don't see how you can say it was straightforward :)
