On the fast track to my well-deserved riches

Posted on July 11, 2005 at 3:25 AM in 'Ruminations' with tags 'photography, stock, design'

A week or two ago, I mentioned to Jing-Ta that I had been thinking about how it'd be kind of cool to get compensated for my photography in some way, like doing weddings or something. He suggested I try submitting photos to a stock photography site like iStockPhoto as a way to start out. They sell photos for $1-3 each, and you get 20% of that, so it's definitely not a way to get rich quick. In fact, since they don't send out a check until you accumulate $100, I kind of doubt I'd ever see any money at all. But it seemed kind of fun, so I filled out the application and submitted some sample photos for consideration.

Henry's Arrival

Posted on August 26, 2005 at 3:25 PM in 'Dear Diary' with tags 'henry, andres, guinness, beer, alcohol, constrsuction'

A few weeks ago I was talking with Henry and he brought up the interesting fact that we'd seen each other once every calendar year since we met. I was surprised, because it feels like we see each other so infrequently, but he listed each visit and he was right. I agreed that the streak could not be broken, and Henry and I made plans for him to come down to PR to visit. Once he had his plane ticket and I mentioned to my parents that he was coming, they reminded me of the fact that the house would be somewhat disassembled at the time. I said "Oops," but Henry said, "That's OK, it will be like camping."

It seems that Brian "Head" Welch, former guitarist for KoRn, has found Christ, quit the band, and is now proselytizing quite fervently. He's got a new website, Head To Christ, and is planning on recording a new solo record and selling it directly from his website, then "[giving the money] back to my people by building something positive, like a skatepark or something." This seems to be big news because everyone finds the transformation so unexpected, but I really don't find it very shocking. I'm not really familiar with any of their newer stuff, but KoRn's older songs were not particularly outspoken against religion. The most common subject matter was pain and unhappiness. If anything, people going through what KoRn's songs describe are prime candidates for discovering religion and the relief and hope that it can provide. Of course, Jonathan Davis is the one that wrote most of their lyrics, so in fact KoRn's music doesn't even provide us that little insight into Brian's life, but the fact remains that KoRn doesn't seem like a particularly un-christian band. Now, if Kerry King of Slayer were to suddenly convert...

Pricing plane tickets to Canada

I replied to a comment on Jenn's livejournal, and I figured I'd post my reply here as well (updated slightly), because it pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.

deviantARTAhh, after letting my deviantART page stagnate for six months (my last posting was made March 1, 2004), I've finally started posting things again. Since so much time has passed, I've got quite a few images that I feel are worth posting - I posted about two thirds tonight, and I'll post the last few tomorrow.

It's interesting that everything I do seems to be for the purpose of sharing it with others. That seems to be a central aspect of my personality - I love sharing my experiences with others, and in fact that seems to be my primary goal in most activities.

The new 70-200mm f/4L is actually significantly lighter than the 24-70 f/2.8L behemoth, which was the reason I chose it over the 70-200 f/2.8L IS (well also the fact that it costs $1100 less) - 1874 views
