Yesterday as I was driving down my street on the way home from work, I was surprised to see a large green iguana waddle across the road in front of my car. "Weird," I thought.

I just found a dead mouse in the bathtub. I've been really busy with work lately, so it's been a few days since I last showered. I'm guessing he fell in there and then, with no one to come along and discover him, must have starved to death. I knew my bad hygiene was gross, but as far as I know this is the first time it has actually killed anything. I'll consider showering more often.

...that you can mail order real newborn baby chicks but not the marshmallow kind?! Curse my attempts at thriftiness!

I guess I'll just have to settle for the real ones. They're not nearly as spongy though.

An interesting description of the wasp Ampulex compressa, who has evolved the ability to perform brain surgery to subjugate cochroaches, turning them into docile zombies that it can then lead back to its nest and use as hosts for its babies. Reading this set me thinking about the evolution/ID argument, and I was going to go into that here, but then I see that just such a discussion sprung up in the comments of that blog, so I figure it's kind of unnecessary.

Today as I was getting out of the shower, I pulled the towel off the rack and was surprised when something leaped onto my body, then fell down into the water and started swimming. After shrieking like a girl, I looked down and saw that it was a lizard, who had just stopped swimming and was now floating. I pulled it out of the water and it sat on my hand catching its breath. This put me in a quandary, because I wanted to take it out to the backyard to let it go, but I wasn't the most dressed I've ever been. As I tried to wrangle my towel around me with one hand, he jumped off my hand and into the sink. He then waited patiently, eyeing me warily while I finished drying off and donned my bathrobe. Finally I scooped him into a plastic cup that happened to be there, and took him outside. But first I stopped by my room and took pictures of him. That's the fee you pay for me giving you a ride. Just like all the girls I pick up with my car late at night.
