Entries with tag "jeff"Super 8When I was at Jeff and Amy's mom's house in Aiken for Thanksgiving, I came across an old Super 8 silent film camera in the room where I was staying. I asked their mom about it, and she said she couldn't imagine why she'd ever need it again, and that I could have it. That was an unexpected turn — I've been wanting to buy an old film camera on eBay for a while now, but could never bring myself to spend the money on it. Clemson and Aiken, SC for ThanksgivingOn Monday I returned from a week in South Carolina — I drove to Clemson on Friday, hung out there until Wednesday, then drove with Jeff to his parents' house in Aiken for Thanksgiving. Andrés and Amy also flew down from Boston for the holiday. It was really cool getting to see so many of my favorite people, although most of my friends in Clemson were busy with schoolwork and so I actually didn't get to spend very much time with anyone. Still, it was a satisfying trip. Permalink | Revision: 1 | (1 comment) | Comments are closed for this entry. MigrationThe visit in Clemson was perfect. I didn't miss out on any visits, and I got to do all the things I had on my list: I watched Metalocalypse with Meg, ate at Waffle House, took pictures at the abandoned mill in Newry, finally hung out with Katie in person, went to Super Taco, spent a good amount of time with Alia, did an Irish Car Bomb with Jeff and Bobby, hung out with Kells, and even got to see Jenn, which I though would be infeasible. Nostalgia Via VideoI was going through all my old camcorder tapes today, trying to locate the video of my brother and I almost getting hit by a plane at St. Barths. I didn't find it, but I did encounter a bunch of fun videos I had forgotten. In lieu of the propeller death video, I figured I'd put these up instead. Odds are they won't be amusing to people who weren't actually there at the time, but I figure that's probably most of you anyway. My Xvid encoder was being obstinate, and would sometimes refuse to encode a video with anything other than the absolute lowest audio quality setting. Ah well, they're not too bad, and it's only one or two of them. Permalink | Revision: 1 | (6 comments) | Comments are closed for this entry. Clemson for Meg's birthdayI got back from Clemson a few hours ago. I took two days off from work and flew up for Meg's birthday, and Andrés drove down from Orangeburg where he's interning. As expected, it was a really fun weekend. I've just finished posting all the digital photos I took, but I actually used the Holga much more than the digital camera, and I've still got five rolls and two sheets of film to develop. Those will be posted over the coming days. Permalink | Revision: 1 | (1 comment) | Comments are closed for this entry. A Sad FarewellTwo of my favorite features of The Compound were Bart and Thad. Bart was left behind by Jeff when he moved out of The Compound, and Reno found Thad on the side of the road one day and thought to himself, "Dan would like this." What an excellent thing for someone to think about me. When I moved out, I had no good way to get them down to PR, so I had to leave them with friends. I learned yesterday the tragic news: Thad and Bart are no more. I was greatly saddened by this tragic loss, so I made this small film (Flash w/sound) in their tribute. A little longer than it'd probably have taken if I were in the US, but it's something I can deal with. The first one I watched was Run Lola Run. Oddly enough, I never knew it was in German. I knew almost nothing about it; I just added it to the queue because everyone always talks about how good it is, and Jeff had that bigass movie poster in his room. I did enjoy it. Now we'll just have to see how long it takes from when I return this one until I get the next DVD. Permalink | Revision: 2 | (6 comments) | Comments are closed for this entry. |
