Entries with tag "panaderia"Today Is A Day Of MourningOn Saturday I flew back down to PR for work. I was excited, because it meant I could go back to my beloved panadería, with the fresh-squeezed orange juice and the delicious egg-and-cheese sandwiches and the even more delicious oatmeal. But when I stopped by there, starving and ready to delight in its culinary splendors, I was shocked to find that they had closed down. I guess they just couldn't afford to stay in business without my consistent, reliable patronage. They tried to wait for me, they did, but six months was just too long for them. I never should have moved! Now I'm regretting lost opportunities. I always meant to ask them about their oatmeal recipe — I've experimented with lots of variations but I can never manage to make anything nearly as tasty as theirs. I kept putting it off, figuring, "there's always tomorrow." But tomorrow never came. Carpe diem, my friends. You never know when that person or breakfast establishment you love so dearly will be wrenched violently from your hands by the Fates. Although I only took two days off (Friday and Monday nights), it felt like a more substantial vacation. The weather was uncooperative though, so I didn't get to show her many of the cool things available here. Permalink | Revision: 2 | (0 comments) | Comments are closed for this entry. Another failed PitPass attemptI have yet to have an easy, straightforward oil changing experience with my dealer. A previous entry discusses my last attempt to get my oil changed, requiring a total of three visits before they finally accepted my car. It seems each time you go, they give you one more small bit of information, and little by little you try to piece together all the clues that theoretically should eventually enable you to achieve a straightforward transaction. There is always such a rift between theory and practice, though. Permalink | Revision: 1 | (0 comments) | Comments are closed for this entry. At last, my fifteen seconds of shame! Wait, is that how that goes?Today after work I stopped by the panadería for breakfast. I wasn't sure if I should order a sandwich or just get oatmeal, because sandwiches take a while to make. But I figured I wasn't in any hurry, so why not. Seconds after I ordered the sandwich, a cameraman and a reporter for Telemundo walked in the door and told everyone to get pretty because she was going to interview everyone about some current events thing. Crap. I would have felt ridiculous cancelling the order just because of that, so I just hunched into the corner with my back to her and hoped she'd get the hint. After that it was just a matter of a race between the sandwich guy and the other interviewees. Permalink | Revision: 1 | (0 comments) | Comments are closed for this entry. |
