Model Airplane Repair
The color isn't an exact match, but it's close enough
This piece of wire will add sturdiness across the thin strip of foam connecting the two halves of the elevator
Packing tape serves as the hinge between the elevator and the stabilizer
The repaired elevator weighed too much, so I cut a new one from a fresh sheet of Depron foam

Model Airplane
Ahh, dirty and happy
Success! I CAN fly a plane
All set! And now converted to a bush plane to help deal with the tall grass
Other than waiting for the engine cowling
Ready to tackle the skies again!
Elmer's glue and packaging tape
More plastic
DIY repairwork
No! (Not pictured: plane in a tree)
But can I fly it without crashing terribly?
Ahh, I finally have a model airplane again

Wild Ravens Extreme Air Show
Turbines are so LOUD. And FAST. And sound so COOL.
The stuff they did really was incredible and beautiful. Airplanes are so much more graceful than helicopters. It's too bad film can't convey it.
Then he crashed. (Aren't you not supposed to let the flag touch the ground? I'm a jerk.)
This guy's flight routine was very patriotic. They played "Proud to be an American" and someone ran around waving a flag.
"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need... roads."
Time for a "landing"
And off he went and did a bunch of aerobatics. I was too busy watching to take pictures.
Away!
Most planes showed off by taking off across the runway rather than down it. This guy one-upped them
They did lots of incredible things other than hovering, but this is the only thing that can really be captured in a still image
Back on the ground where you belong
It's amazing the things that can be convinced to fly
Trimming the hedges
I seen a horse fly, I seen a dragon fly, I even seen a house fly. But I ain't ever seen a lawnmower fly. (1c)
A low pass with smoke
Heading out for the pattern flight
I should know the names of these older planes, shouldn't I? Pitts? Stearman? It's one of those.
With a skilled pilot and an overpowered plane, hovering is possible

Dan Flies The Raptor
Defueling
Uh oh, I think Christian is gonna kick your ass
Oops, I broke it
Hovering in a strong headwind
Dan makes his ninth flight
Harold at the ready
Hooking up the trainer cord

Raptor 50 - Second Flight
Closeup of the Dirk
Nothing but helis today
Luis and his Dirk
My good ole' not-yet-crashed Raptor 50
Harold's Raptor 90
The heli is a Venture 50, but I didn't catch his name
Luis flies his Kyosho Nexus 30 with scale fuselage (DIRK!)

Raptor 50 - First Flight
Harold shows off with his Raptor 50
The P-51D on takeoff (can you tell I really like P-51s?)
...Another Guy... flying his Venture 50 (The one guy whose name I did learn, Luis, is not in any of these pictures)
The P-51D and the Ultimate
The crashed Raptor 50. Not much damage visible from this far away
My heli runs through its first tank of fuel on the ground to break-in the new engine
The Raptor 30 in flight
Harold takes up another student's Raptor 30
Another of Harold's students brings down his Hangar 9 Trainer 40 (1c)
Rounding out that first guy's collection, a P-51D Mustang
Harold's heavily modified Raptor, my stock one, and the other student's crashed one (I really need to learn people's names)
By the end of the day, this plane was to be lost with all hands, somewhere in the property next to the airfield
Someone has a collection of incredibly pretty airplanes. A Cessna 182 and a GP 1/3 scale Christen Eagle II

Raptor 50
Ready and eager to go
I think it would have been worth it to invest in that pair of ball link pliers.
Beautiful, useful piece of technology
It's just a little naked now, is all
Blades extended
Blades stowed for storage
Now THAT'S a helicopter.
Completed rotor head assembly
It's safe to stop squinting now.
Whoever invented the helicopter probably went through the same self-doubt as the guy that invented the automatic transmision. "That's so complicated I've already forgotten how it's supposed to work."
The main shaft makes it look a little closer. But not really.
Progress continues. Still doesn't really look like a helicopter.
The monster radio. I think with this I can probably control God. (1c)
That sort of looks like a helicopter, if you squint. And while you're squinting you look at a picture of a helicopter.
Hmm, it might take a while to make this resemble a helicopter
The newest addition to the RC stable - TT Raptor 50 V2
